Bretaigne DAO continues opening up to international archival networks

We have received an official reply from the International Council on Archives — ICA following our enquiry about Bretaigne DAO’s eligibility for membership.

The ICA confirmed that membership is open to natural and legal persons interested in furthering its mission and indicated that, for institutional membership, the category corresponding to our approach would be Category C. Category B is reserved for professional associations of archivists.

We have asked for one final clarification regarding our particular status as a research and documentation DAO, which does not currently operate as a conventional association with a separate legal personality. The process therefore remains under way: membership has not yet been finalised.

This initiative forms part of the development of our historical and archival research programme: identifying primary sources, digitisation, documentary preservation, metadata, interoperability, cooperation with archival services and the promotion of Brittany’s documentary heritage in France and abroad.

Our research already takes us to a number of European institutions and repositories, particularly in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The objective remains the same: locate the sources, document their provenance, compare them with one another and make this heritage more accessible.

We will keep you informed of the next stages of the procedure.
